No Weapons Allowed????

I haven’t written here in a very long time, mostly because I haven’t had anything to write about.  I have been out shooting, at least once a month so this is good.

Today I’m writing in regards to No Weapons Signs Posted.  Last night I was invited out by a friend to go see a movie, I went and checked my app for places that allow or don’t allow guns, this theater does not allow, which most movie theaters do not so I didn’t carry and I made a point to seek out the sign that says that you can’t have guns in the theater.  I looked all over the front doors, I looked at every sticker and sign at the ticket office and I looked all over the concession area too, nothing, not one sign did I see.  So I asked the manager, where their signs were posted that you cannot have firearms on the premise, he said, “they are posted by the ticket office or they better be!”  After the movie I looked once again thinking maybe I had missed it, still nothing whatsoever did I find, I didn’t care to go find the manager and have him point it out to me because I was ready to call it a night.

The thing is if I didn’t have that app, I wouldn’t know that they didn’t allow guns, if they do have a sign it is very hard to find or not there at all.  I just think signs should be clearly posted, that you should see it pretty quickly not have to search really hard and still not find it. 1. In most states, those signs carry no weight of law. I know here in Iowa, all they can do is ask you to leave. if you refuse, they can call the police, who will ask you to leave. As a matter of principal, I stay out of those places if I can.

    1. I think it's the same here but I need to confirm that. I try to stay out of those places too. I'm not a big fan of going to movie theaters any ways just because they cost way too much in my opinion so avoid them isn't any skin off my nose.

  2. In Colorado, those signs don't carry any weight. If you carry in a posted place, all management can ask you to do is leave. If you do not leave, they can call the cops for trespassing.

However, I agree. Those signs need to be posted prominently so that CCW permit holders can make an informed decision.

    1. I agree, the signs need to be prominent. I know the one at the museum is very obvious, you can't miss it. With them not holding weight and all they can do is ask you to leave, that is if they even notice that you are carrying anyways.

  3. Same here in Missouri. Owner or representative of the owner can ask you to leave, etc. Other than that, the sign must meet standards spelled out in the law itself. The sign must be posted near all entrances and be clearly visible to anyone entering the building.

  4. I just ignore those signs. Signs have no power over my natural right to self defense. I refuse to allow any sign to tell me how I should live, or die for that matter.
